Summary

The roles of prosecutors have been highly varied at different times and in different places. Prosecutor’s offices may form a part of the judicial system, be separate constitutional institutions, or be a part of the executive power, as is the case in Estonia. Since the aim of this article is to present an overview of the work and activities of our prosecutors, the article is focused on the national system, leaving aside the general comparative analysis. The article is comprised of three parts – the first describes the place of the Estonian prosecutor’s office in the legal system, the second covers the aims and values of the current prosecutor’s office, and the third explains why the profession of a prosecutor is worth considering.
